Petites Gaufres
So we lifted one of these little (actually large) wafers from Rob's box to sample. Nice crisp, light, wafers that sandwich a smear of mildly sweet flavored cream filling. Seems like a very Japanese take of a French confection that would go well with tea.
A little search reveals that this particular confectioner, Fugetsu-Do, is a traditional bakery with a long (115 years) history in Motomachi in Kobe.

Their gaufres are perhaps the most well known?
There is another Fugetsudo in Ueno in Tokyo that may be related to the Kobe one as the logo of a crescent on a fan is the same? That one has been around even longer -- 270 years!
