Ritsurin Garden 栗林公園
Ritsurin Kōen, lit. chestnut grove garden, is one of the most famous historical gardens in Japan. The garden is situated in the city of Takamatsu and is considered one of its main attractions. The garden contains a tea house, various folk art and craft exhibits (including the Sanuki Folk Craft Museum), as well as various folk art and craft items for sale.

It is commonly said that Ritsurin should be included in the Top 3 Gardens In Japan list. The current third is Kairakuen in Mito, about an hour northeast of Tokyo. It is particularly good during ume (plum blossom) season in February to March.

Ritsurin Koen lies two kilometers south of JR Takamatsu Station and Takamatsu Castle. The Shopping Arcades run nearly the entire way from there to the garden. Alternatively, it is most easily accessed by Kotoden or JR train.

By Kotoden
Take a train along the Kotohira Line from Takamatsu-Chikko Station to Ritsurinkoen Station (8 minutes, 190 yen, 4 trains per hour). From there, it is a ten minute walk to the park's main entrance.

By Japan Railways
Take a local train from JR Takamatsu Station in direction of Tokushima to Ritsurinkoen-Kitaguchi Station (5 minutes, 210 yen, 2 trains per hour). From there, the park's north gate can be reached in a five minute walk.
