Teru Teru Bozu
and Sports Day
One thing I love about Japan is that culture and tradition are honored and maintained. Like teru teru bozu and holidays.
When we stayed in Japan for a quarter, I figured that like in the U.S. people would just do their own thing on holidays, but I was surprised to find that young people actually did participate in sports on Sports Day. What a concept.
I know things change, and I fully expect that when we return, we'll probably find more loosening of the old customs, but still it's refreshing to experience a place that honors tradition, courtesy, and community.
