Doutor
ドトール
(dou tou ru)
Unlike the real old time old school espresso shops in Japan, Doutor is a nimble home-grown coffee chain whose main current competitor is Starbucks. More of quick bite and good coffee than a lingering space, it is well lit and comfortable. The coffee is good, as they do their own open flame roasting (and even grow some of it on two plantations they own in Hawaii).
The name Doutor is Portuguese for Doctor, and comes from the name of a street in Brazil, where founder Hiromichi Toriba lived in the 1960s to learn about coffee.

An interesting alternative to the newer Starbucks and Tully's imports.
