Sumida-Gawa
The Sumida River parallels the larger Arakawa River and is an important feature in the life of Tokyo.
You can get a fine view of the river just off the Asakusa Metro Station and walk along the riverside promenade. Nice views of the Tokyo Skytree and the Asahi Beer Tower (and golden turd). You can take a river cruise and see Tokyo from the water.
A nice bonus is a free-standing Tully's Coffee stand on the riverbank.
Just across the street is the Matsuya Ekimise department store and the Tobu train station. The Tobu Limited Express Spacia is probably the fastest and easiest way to travel to Nikko (not JR so not eligible for RailPass).
There is another Tully's inside the Matsuya building too.

And come to find out that Asahi Beer headquarters building that looks like a glass of beer with a foam head has a Sky Room bar up top. Not as high as the Skytree, but the price of a beer is certainly less than the Skytree admission. 😉

As noted, there is a Tully's at the Matsuya building entrance to the Tobu Asakusa rail station. Just in case you want to grab a coffee before heading to Nikko.
